A PAULITE ON MT. EVEREST
THERE IS A PLACE ABOVE ALL OTHERS,
WHERE DREAMS ARE CHASED ABOVE THE CLOUDS--
WHERE ONLY THE STRONG AND LUCKY SURVIVE.
THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN IN THE WORLD IS HONORED BY BUDDHISTS AS THE HOME OF THE GODS. IT IS A SACRED MOUNTAIN -- OF GREAT BEAUTY.... AND GREAT DANGER.
IT IS EVEREST!

On Thursday, May 23, 1996, at 11:35 am Jamling Tenzing Norgay, (St. Paul's School, Class of 1985) and son of Tenzing Norgay (who along with Edmund Hillary were the first humans on Mt.
Everest), along with two others, and a five member Sherpa team reached the summit of Mount Everest.
Almost 1 year later, to-the-day, Tashi Tshering (St. Paul's School, Class of 1984) summited Mt.
Everest. Reuters and the Times of India were amongst many of the press services that reported that achievement. Both have since removed their stories so I can not link to them.

I was sent information on Jamling's climb atop Everest. Jamling was part of an expedition atop Mt. Everest that was filmed for a Sony IMAX movie called: EVEREST. The team carried camera equipment to film a the Sony IMAX forty minute movie which was released in the Spring 1998. The movie will be shown at IMAX and IWERKS theatres (on screens which are about 6 stories high) around the world.
The climb came thirteen days after one of Everest's greatest tragedies claimed the lives of 8 climbers and most of the other expeditions on the mountain had left.

Jamling's accomplishment and the manner in which he and his family were portrayed in the movie gave us all a great sense of pride. If you have not see the movie, I encourage you to do it.
The reports below were "Field Dispatchs" filed by members of the expedition for MacGillivray Freeman Films of Laguna Beach, California, USA who is making the movie. The links below are to others web pages that either participated in or followed Jamling and the Everest on IMAX expedition.
