PAULITE WEB - Poems By Tony Davies
A Day In The Life
|
Daybreak calls, the first rays of the sun,
At school, the day has already begun.
The call to wake, from slumbers deep,
To wipe away the webs of sleep.
After Chota Hazri, it's out to the field,
Exercise, to make stiffened muscles yield!
The torture over, then it's on to our forms,
Wishing we were still snug in our dorms!
The school bell sounds, boys appear en masse,
Scurrying like ants, from class to class.
Bodies to nurture, young minds to mould,
Knowledge to gather, as lessons unfold.
None too soon for some, the lunch bell sounds,
Its strident peal, around buildings resounds.
Spilling from classrooms in a cacophony of noise,
The school comes to life, to the sound of its boys!
Afternoon, sometimes, meant time spent with friends,
An enjoyable few hours, which all too soon ends.
Punctuated at Four by afternoon tea,
Can you think of anywhere you'd rather be!
Prep in the evenings brings us back down to earth,
Signalling an end to our youthful mirth.
The day almost over, how long now it seems,
But soon we'll return, to our sleep, and our dreams!
