PAULITE WEB - Poems By Tony Davies
The Marathon Runner
Remember practising for the marathon run?
If truth be told, it wasn't much fun.
But I'd set out, heart full of joy,
I'd soon forget I was just a boy.
Out there I was an athlete, setting the pace,
A world class runner, leading the race,
I'd passed my rivals, they couldn't keep up,
First to the line, I'd lift the Cup.

Race day came, I set off with the rest,
Promising myself I would do my best,
Soon I was out there, running alone,
From races like this, legends have grown.
The race nearly over, I rounded the bend,
The tape in sight, the pain at an end.
Heart pounding, feet moving fast,
I crossed the line, I finished……last!!
