PAULITE WEB - Poems By Tony Davies
We Went In As Boys
|
I've run the gauntlet that life's thrown down,
Often with a smile, sometimes a frown,
And when my life seems to move too fast
I'll reminisce about the past,
About the days spent at my old school,
Where "do your best" was the golden rule.
The yearning to walk again in it's grounds,
To savour the sights, and drink in the sounds,
To be once more amongst old friends
Is a dream of mine, and it never ends.
When memories fade, as they often do,
And faces and names won't come back to you,
The school will be there, in all it's glory,
And there'll be another old boy to tell his story,
Of friendships made, battles won and lost,
And sacrifice made, regardless of cost,
The tale will be told, about the time when,
We went in as boys ……… and came out as men.
